Teaching and Learning Styles:
Group Work. Peer observation.
|
|
Context in which the lesson is set |
This can be done at any stage after a group of pupils have carried out
a scientific investigation, or done some other substantial piece of work
in groups. If required, an observer can be selected to record information
about the process of working together, although this is only likely to
be possible if the activity is one lesson in length |
|
What the lesson is about |
The purpose of the activity is to make pupils aware of the kinds of values
that are necessary when working together with other people in a group.
They will look at the way theirs and other peoples groups actually behaved,
and think about what was good, and what was bad |
|
Expected outcomes |
Pupils will increase their understanding of how people interact within
a group. They will have ideas about how they respond to the group situation
themselves, and how they can work better with others in future. An example from a class brainstorming session can be seen here. |
|
Details of Teacher and Pupil Activities |
If an observer has been
used, they should have made notes on the record sheet about the activities
going on in the group during the activity. The rest of the process
could be handled in a number of ways. Each value could be dealt with
separately, and looked for by the pupils in their group, with the
help of the observer. They should be asking themseves how important
each value has been during the group activity, and in what way it
is important. Alternatively the values could be discussed as a class
using a brainstorming session. |
