Context in which the lesson is set This lesson is the second in a series of lessons looking at geographical surroundings. Over several hours pupils build up a picture of their ideal town, giving reasons for their choices of who and what will be in their town. During this process pupils become familiar with the vocabulary associated with Persons, Buildings, and Rules. They also have the opportunity to consider the human qualities of the people in their town
What the lesson is about This lesson builds on the activities carried out in the first lesson in which pupils decided what kinds of jobs would be needed in their ideal town. In this lesson they should decide on the buildings which are necessary, and be able to explain why they are needed
Expected outcomes Pupils will become familiar with the vocabulary associated with buildings, and will be able to use this to construct sentences such as: For (the doctor) there will be a (surgery)
Details of Teacher and Pupil Activities Cards or board work are used to introduce all the different kinds of buildings that might be available in a town. Pupils then decide which thy think are necessary and use sentences to explain why they are needed
